Jubilee Primary School – A Living Vision of Ecumenism
Jubilee Primary School stands as a unique expression of Christian unity on the northern Gold Coast. Founded in 1994 through the collaborative efforts of leaders from Anglican, Catholic, Uniting, Presbyterian, Assembly of God, Lutheran, Baptist, and Reach Out for Christ communities, Jubilee was born from a shared vision of faith, fellowship, and service. This ecumenical spirit led to the formation of the Collaborative Ministers Fraternal, which laid the foundation for a joint worship centre and an inclusive school community in Coomera.
Today, Jubilee is a living testament to ecumenism in action. As one of Brisbane Catholic Education's three ecumenical schools, it is supported by four founding churches—St Mary's Catholic Community, Gold Coast North Anglican Church, City on the Hill Apostolic Church, and Gold Coast Uniting Church. Together, these communities nurture a school environment that respects individual traditions, embraces diversity, and celebrates a shared commitment to Christ.
At Jubilee, the Gospel is lived out through daily prayer, whole-school liturgies, and outreach programs that reflect our values of compassion, unity, and service. Our ecumenical identity is not just a foundation—it is a vibrant, evolving mission that continues to shape the spiritual and educational journey of every student.
When the Jubilee Primary School Steering Committee and local church leaders chose the name "Jubilee" in 2000, they did so with deep intention. The name reflects powerful biblical themes of redemption, unity and shared purpose. Values that lie at the heart of our ecumenical foundation.
Throughout Scripture, the concept of Jubilee is woven into the story of God's joy in creation, the teachings of the law and prophets, the mission of Christ, the work of the Church and the hope for God's reign. Themes such as forgiveness, justice, Sabbath rest, liberty, celebration and especially journeying together, were seen as profoundly relevant as we entered the new millennium.
The name "Jubilee" also symbolises the ongoing restoration of unity among Christian churches. Our school's founding in the year 2001 commemorates the 2000th anniversary of the birth of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour and celebrates the shared faith that binds us as Christians.
Locally, the name affirms our connection to the global Christian movement "Jubilee 2000," which called for the forgiveness of debt for impoverished nations. It also reflects the aspirations of Queensland Churches Together, who joined in celebrating Jubilee 2000 as a call to renewal and hope.
In every way, Jubilee Primary School is a living expression of these values, bringing together diverse Christian traditions in a spirit of unity, compassion and shared mission.
