Positive Behaviour For Learning (PB4L)

This comprehensive plan outlines Jubilee Primary School’s approach to fostering positive student behaviour. It is built on the school’s ecumenical foundation and values of respect, responsibility, positivity and organisation. Key elements include:

  • Beliefs and Vision: Behaviour support is central to Jubilee’s mission of equity and excellence in a Christian learning environment.
  • Behaviour Expectations: Explicit teaching, modelling and reinforcement of expected behaviours across all learning and play areas.
  • Roles and Responsibilities: Clear expectations for students, teachers and parents to support a respectful and collaborative school culture.
  • Positive School Culture: Recognition systems such as Student of the Week Awards, Bee-Attitude Awards, Gotcha Awards, Principal’s Awards, Sporting and Academic based awards and class-based rewards.
  • Targeted Support: Intervention strategies for students at risk, including personalised behaviour plans and social skills instruction.

Jubilee's "Bee Connected" Program

During the first five weeks of the school year, all classes engage with our "Bee Connected" program. This program fosters strong and positive relationships amoungst peers as they learn about one another and school expectations. Areas explicitly taught include:

  • Be brave - managing emotions
  • Be sensible - making good choices
  • Be kind - how we treat others
  • Be your best - using your gifts and talents
  • Be accountable - taking responsibility
  • Saying no to bullying

The Bee Attitudes

Jubilee uses the Bee-Attitudes of:

  • Be Respectful
  • Be Responsible
  • Be Positive

These Bee-Attitudes frame how we approach all endeavours at Jubilee. Each week, teachers have the opportunity to hand out Bee-Attitude Awards. These awards celebrate students who consistently live out the school’s core values:

Each class nominates one to two students who has demonstrated these qualities throughout the term.

These awards are not just about behaviour—they reflect a student’s character, attitude, and contribution to the classroom and school community. They are often accompanied by certificates, stickers, and affirmations from teachers and peers.

Gotcha Awards

Gotcha Awards are part of Jubilee’s daily behaviour reinforcement system. They are informal, spontaneous recognitions given to students who are “caught” doing the right thing—whether it’s helping a friend, showing kindness, following instructions, or demonstrating leadership.

These awards are:

  • Distributed frequently across classrooms and playgrounds.
  • Used to reinforce positive choices and encourage students to internalize the Bee-Attitudes.
  • Often displayed or tracked in classrooms as part of visual behaviour systems (e.g., sticker charts, raffle tickets, Class Dojo).

Gotchas help build a culture of encouragement and accountability, and they complement more formal awards like Student of the Week and Principal’s Awards.

Chill Out Zone

Jubilee’s “Chill Out Zone” is a designated space for students to self-regulate and reflect. It includes:

  • Visual Prompts: Encouraging students to give compliments, manage emotions, and think of positive actions.
  • Behavioural Reminders: How to be a good friend, how to respond when things don’t go your way, and how to be a “superhero” in behaviour.
  • Creative and Affirming Language: Designed to help students feel safe, supported, and empowered during emotional moments.
