At Jubilee Primary School, the Religious Life of the School (RLOS) is a vibrant expression of our ecumenical identity and shared Christian values. As one of Brisbane Catholic Education's three ecumenical schools, Jubilee is supported by four foundation churches—St Mary's Catholic Community, City on the Hill Apostolic Church, Gold Coast North Anglican Church, and Gold Coast Uniting Church—which together shape our spiritual vision and daily practices.
Faith in Action
Faith is woven into the fabric of school life through:
- Daily prayer in classrooms and assemblies
- Weekly prayer gatherings and liturgical celebrations
- Seasonal observances such as Lent, Easter, and Advent, including student-led reflections and creative activities like Lenten calendars and acts of kindness
- Inclusive prayer practices, allowing students to engage in ways that reflect their own traditions—whether through the sign of the cross, quiet reflection, or spontaneous prayer
Curriculum Integration
Religious Education at Jubilee is aligned with the BCE Religion Curriculum P–12 and includes:
- Exploration of Scripture, sacraments, and Christian moral teachings
- Units on peace, justice, creation, and community, helping students connect faith to everyday life
- Inquiry-based learning that encourages students to ask deep questions and express their understanding through writing, art, and discussion
Ecumenical Spirit
Jubilee's ecumenical character is not just historical—it is lived daily. Staff and students are encouraged to:
- Celebrate the diversity of Christian traditions
- Participate in shared worship and inter-church events
- Engage with pastors and parishioners from all four foundation churches through liturgies, classroom visits, and community celebrations
Formation and Growth
Staff and student formation is a key focus:
- Teachers participate in ongoing professional development to deepen their understanding of ecumenical spirituality and religious pedagogy [
- Students attend formation days, retreats, and events like the Fr Rob Galea Faith Encounter and the Year of Jubilee Pilgrimage, which offer opportunities to grow in faith and community
Inclusive and Welcoming
Jubilee welcomes students from all faith backgrounds. At enrolment, families are invited to engage with the Religious Life of the School as part of the school's identity. This inclusive approach ensures that every child feels valued and supported in their spiritual journey.
Local Covenant Churches
Jubilee Primary School is a living vision of Christian unity, supported by four local churches that form the foundation of our ecumenical identity:
- St Mary's Catholic Community, Coomera
- City on the Hill – Apostolic Australia Church, Maudsland
- Gold Coast North Anglican Church
- Gold Coast Uniting Church, Coomera
These churches are more than partners—they are active participants in the spiritual life of our school. Their pastors and parishioners regularly engage with students and staff through worship, prayer, and community outreach.
Worship and Prayer
Staff and students worship together throughout the year in ecumenical services led by local clergy.
Daily classroom prayer, Friday prayer assemblies, and whole-school liturgies are central to our spiritual rhythm.
Eucharistic and communion services are held with respect for the distinct traditions of each denomination.
Working Ecumenically
Local clergy meet regularly with school leadership through the Jubilee Covenant Churches Working Group to discuss ecumenical matters and support the Religious Life of the School.
These meetings foster collaboration, shared decision-making, and mutual respect across denominations.
Community Engagement
Pastors like Brad Otto from City on the Hill Church actively participate in classroom interviews and discussions, helping students understand church roles and faith in action.
Outreach programs and Helping Hands initiatives are supported by all four churches, extending care to families in need and local charities.
A True Ecumenical Model
Jubilee is not just a school with Christian values—it is a fully ecumenical school. This means that each church is fully and openly represented in our community, contributing its unique traditions while embracing shared beliefs in Jesus Christ.
We celebrate what unites us and respectfully acknowledge our differences, creating a school culture that is inclusive, compassionate, and deeply rooted in faith.
